Hypertrophy
Definition of hypertrophy:
increase in the size of cells (parenchyma cell) and consequently an increase in the size of the organ.
Types of hypertrophy:
- Compensative hypertrophy
- Hormonal hypertrophy
The hypertrophy describe the increase size of individual cell. If there are many hypertrophy cells in an organ, the size of the organ will increase. Note here the cell just means parenchyma cell. Only increase the parenchyma cell size can increase the organ function. Such an adaptation has physiological significance.
