Hemodynamic Disorders-4

in previous discussion we have discussed
  1. Definition of thrombosis
  2. Hemostasis & Thrombosis
  3. Steps in the formation of a thrombus
  4. Differences between THROMBUS  & CLOT
  5. Definition of embolism
  6. Thromboembolism
  7. PULMONARY THROMBOEMBOLISM
So in this discussion we will continue with

SYSTEMIC THROMBOEMBOLISM:

Embolism in arterial circulation.
SOURCE : 80 – 85 % from heart
  • 60-65% from left ventricle ( intracardiac mural thrombi)
  • 5-10 % rheumatic heart disease
  • 5% cardiomyopathy
OTHER LESS COMMON SOURCES
  • Atherosclerotic plaques
  • Aortic aneurysms
  • Infective endocarditis
  • Valvular heart diseases
